Discover A Universe of Stories at the Hershey Public Library this summer. This year’s summer reading program will include Book Buddies, 1, 2, Whee!, Books and Babies, Chewsy Readers, and other fun-filled programs for children and families. The Hershey Quest Scavenger Hunt returns to Shank Park—you’ll be over the moon!
Children are encouraged to participate in our Summer Quest, which provides a no-pressure and fun way to continue reading over summer vacation thereby maintaining reading skills mastered during the school year. All activities are free of charge. Incentives this year include a special library lanyard and exclusive badges.
A book will be awarded for meeting the reading challenge which is to read 720 minutes: about 20 minutes a day for 6 weeks. What counts as reading minutes? Children being read to (this includes children of all ages), children reading by themselves, reading to a sibling, a grown-up, or a friend. Listening to audiobooks also counts! We have audiobooks on CD for children and PlayAway audiobooks for older children. And, don’t forget audiobooks and e-books on Hoopla and OneDrive, TumbleBooks, BookFlix through Power Library, and Storyline Online. Summer Quest includes Book Buddies, 1, 2, Whee!, Sensory 1, 2, Whee!, Books and Babies, Chewsy Readers, Book Buddies, and other fun-filled programs for children and families.
Milt the Mouse will be hiding in the library from June 7 through August 1. Participants in the Hershey Public Library Summer Quest will want to follow clues and learn his weekly secret code to earn badges and prizes. He changes his location every Monday. Clues are posted on our Facebook and Twitter pages as well as at the library.
Summer Quest ends on August 24. This is the last day to log reading minutes and to claim prizes.
